Conference Theme:
Technology Management and Innovation in China: Challenges and Opportunities in the 21st Century

¡°China phenomena¡± is changing the knowledge balance of the world. Many countries, in particular, Western countries, are carefully following the developments and changing's of China¡¯s technology system and innovation policy. China¡¯s ambition of becoming ¡°an innovation-oriented country¡± by 2020 and a ¡°world¡¯s leading science power¡± by 2050 has drawn world attention.  China¡¯s increased prominence in international and regional science and technology affairs has created a growing need for a deeper and more sophisticated understanding of the structure, operation and performance of the Chinese science and technology system.  A broad range of policies and programs have been put in place over the last two decades to initiate major improvements in the country¡¯s innovation system.  In these days, the application of technology is increasingly changing business practice, regardless of the sector.  This has been especially true in China.  A variety of evolving technologies affect professional practices and consumer behaviours.  Presenting a critical overview of the changing's that technology continue to make on China with examination of appropriateness and effectiveness of technology transfer in China in the context of obtaining technology by sacrificing its market, the purpose of this conference is to provide a forum for academics and practitioners to debate on a number of crucial issues on technology and knowledge management and innovation.

 The significance of this conference is exemplified by four main factors:

1) The increased  centrality of the Chinese enterprises as the main source for national and local R&D expenditures;

2) As ¡°real core technologies can not be purchased but can only be achieved by innovation¡±, so there is the growing need to consolidate the technological capacity building through developing an appropriate implementation strategy of technology innovation;

3) China¡¯s growing impact on the international business model and the prevailing patterns and dynamics of international economic and technological competition;

4) The critical and expanding role of foreign technology and R&D in China and their impact on the development trajectory of the science and technology system.

 This conference is devoted to provide a comprehensive assessment of the current challenging issues of MOT in China and advance MOT research and MOT education in China.  It should allow researchers, academics and practitioners to debate on many crucial issues and provoke strategic thinking concerning the development and continuity of China¡¯s technology policy and innovation system.
