Extended Goal Statement:
I am a natural born American citizen, born and raised in Washington,
D.C. Received a B.A. at Moravian
College in Bethlehem, Pa. in 1972. I decided to go to graduate school in
Germany, based on a recommendation from a professor of the University of
Karlsruhe, to begin a new course of study, called 'Business
Engineering'.
During a required summer practical work assignment with the university
and IBM in 1973, I intensively learned the german language. I supported
my graduate studies through my personal savings, and part-time
employment with IBM Germany. After receiving my master's degree, I went
to work with IBM Germany and stayed 26 years. Most of those years with
IBM were in many different functions and countries worldwide. The
challenge to study in a foreign country, speaking a foreign language,
and living and working in a foreign environment appealed to me at that
time. Today, we call it globilization. I succeeded in meeting this
challenge of higher learning, and overcoming the difficulties of
studying in a foreign land, and working and communicating in a foreign
language. My grades at the master*s level are sufficient to continue my
education on the PhD level at the University of Karlsruhe. Therefore, I
have been rewarded with the recognition that goals can be achieved
through multiple and diversive interactions of people, cultures, and
business.
My PhD is a continuation of my goal to achieve, through multiple and
diversive interactions with people, cultures, and business, better
understanding of the global challenges and the solutions required to
meet those challenges. The difference here is in my contribution, that I
am using my experience, contacts, and continuous learning to consult,
manage, and teach the next generation of global players
