A Personal Message from Professor Michael Badway to CAMOT and IAMOT Communities

Dear CAMOT members, Tarek’s colleagues, students, and friends,

I am writing to invite you to join our building efforts of the “Abla Kahlil’s Endowment Fund” to recognize Mrs. Kahlil’s contributions to IAMOT, and to keep her memory alive. Some of you might have already heard of the very sad news concerning the late Mrs. Abla Kahlil’s (1950-2008) sudden passing on May 27, 08. I have just found out about it during the CAMOT first conference, held in Beijing, China in late October. I was having a conversation over breakfast with Richard Li Hua, CAMOT President about my expectation to see Tarek as the IAMOT founder at the conference; he informed me of his wife’s passing.
As a nucleus member of IAMOT founders, I am seeking your help with our efforts in building the ‘Abla’s Kahlil Endowment Fund”. Many of you have met/known Abla for years. She was such a fine gracious person. From the early years, when our five members founding group worked on establishing an international association that would help in the formation and development of management of technology as a viable respected discipline, she was one of our most ardent supporters.
Over the years, IAMOT continued to grow, thrive, and mature from a very small entity to a well structured and respected leading global organization with membership from all corners of the world. Abla was a true partner to Tarek and instrumental to his career success. In my communication with Tarek, his only expressed reservation regarding establishing this endowment was; “My only reservation is not to burden our colleagues”. I am sure all of you would share my view- that this endowment is the least we can do for him in light of his grave loss.
Yasser Hosni, the current president of IAMOT, is totally supportive of the initiative and is the endowment first contributor in the amount of $1,000. I am matching Yasser’s contribution by giving a $1,000. The IAMOT Board has endorsed the allocation of $ 5,000 contribution from the association funds.
The endowment is aimed at encouraging and supporting research and scholarly activities in the Management of Technology Field. This fund will offer an annual award for an excellent student research paper starting with IAMOT 2009 conference. Hopefully our efforts will generate enough funds enabling us to create a self-sustaining source for awarding merit-based students’ scholarships in addition to the annual conference students’ award. A committee of five members has been formed to administer the direction and distribution of the endowment funds.
We live in an increasingly complex and highly demanding global world, I am requesting that you take a moment to consider contributing generously to this important initiative. You will find a “Pledge Form” right below this letter, I am requesting that you please fill out the form with your contribution and mail it out to mbadawy@vt.edu  and IAMOT@miami.edu . Your contributions are very critical to the success of our efforts. We would be pleased if you wish to communicate any/all thoughts and suggestions related to this endowment or any other issues. Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Best regards,

Michael
